Press Release

artlingxstartbahn

Startbahn is delighted to announce a partnership with The Artling, for the launch The Artling NFT Collection, a curated online marketplace of digital artworks, adding to The Artling’s existing diverse offerings of contemporary art and design works. The dedicated NFT marketplace is powered by Startrail, a leading blockchain infrastructure system for the art market operated by Tokyo-based Startbahn. Startbahn will act as the technology and minting partner for the new marketplace, and this new NFT vertical on The Artling’s platform offers the opportunity for artists and designers from all over the world to present both their physical and digital NFT pieces side by side.

This partnership comes at a time when NFTs are gaining prominence in the global art market, with collectors enjoying the added benefits of securitized transactions of artworks sold with certificates of authenticity and provenance tracked with blockchain technology. Artists can not only benefit from greater transparency, but also will now have a chance to create with an entirely new medium, thus expanding their portfolios, creative practice, and reach. As a large majority of the thousands of listed artists and designers on The Artling’s platform are creators of physical, tangible pieces, they are approaching this from a very different angle from most of the other NFT marketplaces out there; they are looking to create long-term value for both our sellers and collectors and to bridge the gap between the physical and digital art world.

The Artling is perfectly positioned due to their longstanding presence in the industry. They have seen tremendous growth since its founding in 2013; they have now amassed close to USD$ 500M of online listings, making them one of the largest and far-reaching art and design platforms in the world.

New, curated NFTs will drop online every two weeks, with digital artworks available for sale on The Artling’s online marketplace. Crucially, all NFT artworks will be available for purchase with fiat currency and no cryptocurrency will be required. This will make buying NFTs much more accessible to a wider audience, who may be unfamiliar with digital wallets and crypto currencies. Painters, photographers, sculptors, illustrators, and designers are hence invited to digitize their physical practice in the form of digital artworks bought and sold as NFTs.

The Artling’s NFT minting process is made simple and artist-focused via Startrail. As an artist-led company, Startbahn created Startrail, a sustainable and scalable Polygon blockchain infrastructure that assures the reliability, authenticity, and traceability of both digital and physical artworks. Startrail’s technology is built for the art market with the opportunity to add specific provenance history and contract terms set by artists and collecting institutions. All the NFTs available for sale will possess a digital record on Startrail on the blockchain, and participating Artling artists and designers join the ranks of other prominent digital and physical artworks with NFTs issued on Startrail, including those by Ryoji Ikeda, Yayoi Kusama, Claude Monet, and many more.

With this partnership, Startbahn looks forward to working with a recognized marketplace for the continued application of blockchain technology to the art market. Startbahn CEO, Taihei Shii, added, "we're thrilled to support The Artling as they bring NFTs and blockchain technology—in many cases for the first time—to countless artists and collectors on their platform."

CEO/Founder of The Artling, Talenia Phua Gajardo says, “Our new NFT vertical is an extremely exciting addition to the platform, adding on to our existing categories of Generative Art, Video Art, Sculpture, Photography, Painting, Prints and more. We believe that providing accessibility to both digital and physical pieces on the same platform not only simplifies processes for creators, but also enables us to offer up buyers a wider variety of pieces for their collections.”
