Since the first exhibition of Nishiki Obi in 1927, Heizo Tatsumura and Takashimaya have been working together to create Takashimaya's original obi, a brand that aims to be the pinnacle of art textiles. Heizo Tatsumura I, who founded his textile business in 1894, pursued two worlds: "creation by adding originality and ingenuity to weaving techniques" and "restoration by thoroughly studying ancient textiles.” Heizo I's textiles are said to have been described by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, the famous literary giant, as "a fearful artistic perfection.”

Today, Heizo Tatsumura IV directs the production of obis that respond to the beauty of the time period, while carefully carrying on the spirit and techniques of the first Heizo Tatsumura designs.
